Introduction to trading on Finterion
Welcome to the Finterion documentation! Here you can find all the information you need to get started with Finterion.
How does Finterion work?
Finterion is a marketplace for investing algorithms. On the Finterion platform, developers can make the logic of their algorithms available -for a fee that they determine- to other Finterion users. Finterion users can leverage these algorithms and let the bots execute trades on their behalf at their broker of choice. Read more about trading on Finterion.
Start Trading on Finterion in 6 Steps
In this guide we will walk you through all the steps to start trading with Finterion. You can find more detailed explanations of each step in the Getting Started Guide.
The initial setup of steps 1 through 3 is required only once. For all subsequent purchases, you can directly start from step 4.
1. Register your Account
To start using Finterion, you first need to create an account. You can create an account by going to the Registration page or go to Finterion.com and click on Register.
The site will prompt you which type of account you would like to create. You can either sign up as a user or as a developer.
- If you would like to invest with bots on Finterion, sign up as a user. We recommend you read the User Documentation to get started.
- If you would like to publish your own bot(s) on Finterion, sign up as a developer. We recommend you read the Developer Documentation to get started.
Next, fill in your email, password, and username. Select the notifications you would like to receive. Read and accept the User Terms of Service checkbox. Click Register.
2. Verify your Account
Upon registering your account, you will receive a verification email from us at the email address of your account. Click on the verification button in the email to verify your account. If you are using a different device or browser, you can alternatively enter the confirmation code you received in the email.

3. Connect a Broker or Exchange
In order to make use of bots, you need to connect to a broker or exchange of your choice. For every broker you use, you have to create one API in Finterion.
- Sign in to your Finterion account
- Click on your Finterion account details in the top right corner.
- Select Your brokers and exchanges in the dropdown.
- In the Brokers and exchanges section, click on + Add connection.
- The add a broker or exchange key overlay opens. In the Create Market Key section, select a broker or market of your choice.
- The Create Market Key menu will open. Enter a selective API name so that you can distinguish it from other APIs for other brokers in the future. You only need to create one API per broker.
- To obtain the API Key and Secret Key, open a new tab, and go to the website of your broker. For example, Bitvavo, crypto.com or Coinbase.
- Create an API key and Secret Key in the portal of your broker. You can usually find this option in your account portal. Select read-only permissions and permissions to access/execute trades. Permissions to withdraw assets are not needed. You might need to verify the API creation with two-factor authentication and/or by email of your broker.
- Upon successful creation, copy the API key and secret of your broker. Do not forget to save these details in a secure location. The secret key is usually only displayed during API creation and cannot be retrieved at a later stage.
- Go back to the Finterion tab and paste the copied details in the Finterion Create Market Key menu.
- Click Next.
- Check the connection status. If an error appears, the error notification will guide you.
- Your broker should now show up in the Brokers and exchanges section. Verify that the status of the connection is Active.
You have successfully connected your broker to Finterion! Get ready to trade by depositing the budget you are looking to trade in your broker account.

4. Buy your first Algorithm
To buy your first algorithm, go to the Finterion store. Here you can see a selection of storefronts that developers have created, algorithms per broker and exchange platform, as well as a selection of algorithms based on their traded assets.
- Select an algorithm you would like to use for your trades.
- Go to the algorithm page to view more details about the algorithm.
- Click on buy. You can find the price of the algorithm in the green box on the right-hand side.
- In the Algorithm purchase menu you can see how many seats are still available for this algorithm. The developer of the algorithm might have chosen to limit the number of seats for that algorithm.
- Select the number of usage periods. This represents how long you would like to leverage this algorithm for. Note that some algorithms are paid for the duration of their use. While an algorithm is purchased, a seat will be deducted from the available seats.
- If you have a coupon code, enter the coupon code and click check. If the coupon code is applicable, a checkbox stating 'Available' will appear on the place of the check button.
- Click on Proceed to payment
- Enter your payment details and click Pay.
- Upon successful checkout, you can now see the algorithm in your dashboard. The dashboard shows you the algorithms and your eligibility. In the Status section you can see the status of the algorithm in your portfolio.
5. Set up your Portfolio
- In your Algorithm Dashboard in the Status section of the algorithm, click on + Add portfolio
- The Create portfolio menu opens, here you need to select the API of the broker you would like to use.
- Specify your portfolio size. The available amount should show the value of your deposit to your broker. When creating your portfolio, its size determines how much of the deposit which you have available at your broker you want to make available to the algorithm.
You always need to select a minimum of 100 of the traded currency in this step. This requirement is a safeguard against orders that may be too small for your broker and exchange to execute, as some have a minimum order limit. Therefore, it is currently not possible to create a portfolio that is less than 100 of the traded currency.

- The portfolio page opens.
On the portfolio page you can review the following metrics:
- Overview across the Total portfolio.

- Positions that the algorithm currently has open.
